Registrations open for Sports Law Conference
Registrations are now open for the 2009 ANZSLA conference, being held this year in Canberra from 7th to 9th October 2009.
With the theme 'The Price of Sport', the conference sessions will discuss drugs in sport, sponsorship and gambling, sponsorship in a declining market, international sports arbitration, governance, organised crime in sport, social leadership and ethical decision making.
The MC this year is Stephanie Brantz, Sports Commentator and Channel Nine presenter while international keynote speaker Declan Hill is an investigative journalist, documentary maker and academic, specialising in the study of organised crime and international issues. His recent book âThe Fix: Soccer & Organized Crimeâ examined the corruption at the heart of international football.
Another keynote will come from Matt Miller, the recently appointed Chief Executive of the Australian Sports Commission.
A detailed program is currently being finalised and will be on the ANZSLA website shortly. Other confirmed speakers to date include:

The conference will be held at the Rydges Lakeside, Canberra and will open with the President's Cocktail Party in ANZSLAâs marquee amid the tapestry of colour of Floriade on Wednesday 7th October. The conference Gala Dinner will be held at the National Museum of Australia and will include a pre-dinner gallery tour on Thursday 8th October. Dual Olympic medalist, Jared Tallent, has agreed to lead off the Gala Dinner by escorting us on a walk from the hotel to the National Museum. On Saturday 10th October, delegates are invited to a tour of the Australian Institute of Sport, followed by lunch and wine tasting at one of Canberraâs great wineries.
