Registrations open for 2021 Sports Medicine Australia annual conference
Registrations are now open for the 2021 Sports Medicine Australia annual conference taking place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground from 6th to 9th October and with Dr David Hughes as this year’s Sir William Refshauge Lecturer.
After a year like no other, Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) is looking forward to welcoming delegates back to the largest Sports Medicine Conference in the Southern Hemisphere.
Exclusive early-bird tickets are available until 31st July with pricing held at 2019 levels.
The conference will deliver a four-day program brimming with industry leading multi-disciplinary sports medicine exhibitors, workshops, presentations, and research.
Kicking off the program will be the pre-conference workshops before the prestigious Sir William Refshauge Lecture delivered this year by Dr David Hughes.
The highly distinguished Dr Hughes accepted the invitation on behalf of the Australian Sports Medicine Federation (ASMF) Order of Fellows and the committee are absolutely delighted to have him as he presents ‘Leading in uncertainty – high performance sports and the pandemic.’
Dr Hughes is a Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician with over 25 years of experience working in high performance sport. He is currently the Chief Medical Officer of the AIS and Medical Director for the Australian Olympic Team for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.
As well as being the Chair of the Federal Government’s COVID-19 Sport and Health Advisory Committee, he is a former President of the Australasian College of Sport & Exercise Physicians (ACSEP) and has attended the London 2012 Olympics as Team Physician for the Opals and Rio 2016 as Olympic Team Medical Director.
Dr Hughes' sport sector experience includes Super Rugby, the NRL and English Premier League football. His current work focus is on system-wide protocols to optimise athlete health and safety as well as ethical and integrity challenges in high performance sport.
The 2021 SMA Conference will be a unique opportunity to hear from Dr Hughes shortly after he returns from the Tokyo Olympics in August this year as he shares his experience at the prestigious major multi-sport event during the time of a global pandemic.
To accompany the Sir William Refshauge Lecture, the conference will feature world-renowned keynote speakers and a showcase of the best sport and exercise medicine researchers in the country with finalists for Abstract and Symposia/Workshop submissions presenting their work to win a share of over $23,000.
The spectacular gala dinner will move to the Friday night where the illustrious ASICS Medal will be presented for 2021.
Concluding the conference on the Saturday will be an array of Workshops and Symposia presentations from a host of Australia’s best researchers.
The complete line up of Keynote Speakers will be announced soon.
