Ready Steady Go Kids hit Rockhampton
After realising that local mums on an online forum were having trouble finding planned activities for their young children, fitness devotees Anthea Lavers and Shaun Curtis, decided to give them a fresh, new option.
As Laver explains "we noticed a lack of activities in the local area and the idea of a sports program really appealed to us.
"We looked into Ready Steady Go Kids and decided it was the perfect opportunity."
The couple will start offering Ready Steady Go Kids classes in Rockhampton in Term One on Monday 4th February, with plans to also run the program in Yeppoon, Gladstone and Emerald in the near future. Their aim is to arm preschoolers with all the skills they need to get started on making sport a real part of their lives.
Lavers adds "we want to see happy, healthy children (and) would like to build a good relationship with other sporting bodies in central Queensland so that when children finish our program they can transfer straight into sports of their choice and have great sportsmanship skills."
Ready Steady Go Kids is a physio-designed, multisport program specifically designed for children aged two-and-a-half to six years. Currently run at over 90 locations throughout Australia, classes are focused on helping kids develop a lifelong love for physical activity in a welcoming, fun environment. The program covers the fundamentals of ten different sports while developing age appropriate motor skills. Kids also learn about the concept of sportsmanship by taking turns, playing by the rules and cooperating with their team mates.
Lavers continues "there are so many benefits to the program.
"Not only are children introduced to sport and physical activity, we also teach elements such as colours, letters, counting and shapes without the children even realising that they are learning as they are playing sport. These skills make it easier for the children to transition to school and other sports."
Ready Steady Go Kids Director, Stuart Derbyshire explains "we're so pleased to have Anthea and Shaun join our team.
"They're committed to making sport a real part of children's lives which fits perfectly with the ethos of our company."
For families who'd like to experience a class before signing up for the program, Ready Steady Go Kids will be holding an Open Day at Hegvold Stadium from 9am to 11am on Saturday 26th January.
