Randwick Council secures NSW award for most Sustainable City
Randwick Council has won the Overall Sustainable Cities Award at The Keep Australia Beautiful (NSW) Awards held earlier this week.
Dylan Parker, Mayor of Randwick advised “this award is evidence of Council’s commitment to prioritising our environment through valuable initiatives that make a difference at a local level.”
As part of the assessment process, judging centred around four key award submissions that Randwick entered to the awards. These programs contributed to the overall category win and included:
Waste and recycling education in multi-unit dwellings
Plant with Us community planting initiative
Our Online Eco Living Festival held during last year’s COVID health restrictions
Randwick’s energy and water saving Sustainability Rebates for residents and businesses
In addition to the overall award, Randwick Council won the Renewable Energy Award for the Sustainability Rebates for our Community Program.
Mayor Parker advised “these important initiatives are underpinned by Council’s Environment Strategy, which sets keen targets and puts the environment at the centre of Council’s commitment to achieving a sense of community.”
Keep Australia Beautiful NSW Chief Executive Val Southam added “Randwick City Council has very effectively showcased sustainability programs developed and implemented over several years, culminating in being acknowledged as the leader in sustainability across the greater Sydney region.”
