Queensland Orchestra gets new home with ABC
The Queensland Symphony Orchestra (QSO) will have a new home at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation's new Queensland headquarters in Brisbane.
Plans for a $14 million home for the orchestra with the ABC at Brisbane's South Bank have been announced by State Premier Anna Bligh and Federal Infrastructure Minister Anthony Albanese.
Premier Bligh explains that the QSO is "about to become the best located orchestra in Australia - located in the new ABC building, right next door to the Performing Arts Centre and next door to the Conservatorium of Music."
ABC's Chairman Maurice Newman says it further strengthens synergies between the Orchestra and the ABC, as well as a host of other tertiary and cultural organisations, stating "having the orchestra in the same location as the ABC will also increase the opportunities to invite the public into our new building for events such as school concerts and other performances."
Newman says both the ABC and the orchestra will fit comfortably together on the South Bank site.
