Queensland Government's new cabinet sworn in with new sport and tourism minister

Having been confirmed as Queensland Premier on Friday, Steven Miles’ cabinet has been sworn in at Government House.

With a new look front bench and first-time ministers handed portfolios such as transport, child safety and disaster recovery, there will no longer be a minister for the Olympics and Paralympics - rather Games responsibilities will fall under another portfolio.

This will see Grace Grace (pictured) moved from the education portfolio, becoming Minister for State Development and infrastructure, including the Olympics, on top of her previous portfolio of Industrial Relations and Racing.

Another key change sees Michael Healy become Tourism and Sport Minister, replacing the outgoing Stirling Hinchliffe.

Speaking at a media conference today after his Ministry was officially sworn, Premier Miles said the 2032 Games was supposed to unite Queensland but he had seen how "divisive" it had become, commenting "I think that by not having a portfolio, but still having a minister responsible, we can demonstrate that we're committed to using the Games as a catalyst to bring forward venues and infrastructure for our region, but without the sense that government is distracted by it, that it's taking us from our priorities.”

Premier Miles, who was installed as Queensland's 40th premier last week, insisted his new cabinet has the "right mix of youth and experience".

Among other new ministerial appointments Bart Mellish, will take on the transport and main roads portfolio, Charis Mullen will be minister for child safety, seniors and disability services and multicultural affairs, Nikki Boyd is the new minister for fire and disaster recovery and corrective services, while Lance McCallum becomes minister for employment, small business and training.
