Queensland Government launches Eco-certified Tourism Destination Program

The Queensland Department of Tourism, Innovation and Sport has announced the launch of the Eco-certified Tourism Destination Program, offering $1 million in grants between $50,000 and $150,000 to aid the sustainability certification of regions across Queensland.

Through this grant, Queensland destinations can contribute funding to undergoing Ecotourism Australia’s internationally recognised ECO Destination Certification program to achieve global best practice sustainability standards and align with the state government’s broader vision to make Queensland a leading sustainable tourism destination.

The Program underpins the vision for Queensland to become a leader in sustainable tourism, leverages the growth potential in nature-based tourism experiences, and supports actions to achieve the target of net zero emissions by 2050.

By choosing ECO Destination Certification, destinations will achieve global recognition for their tourism and destination sustainability practices, be part of the Queensland Government's long-term vision for destination and tourism sustainability and build on nature-based tourism offerings in the region.

To be eligible you must be a:

• Queensland local government authority, or an entity governing or managing a local government area in accordance with legislation; or a

• Regional Tourism Organisation or Local Tourism Organisation in partnership with the relevant local government authority and/or authorities.
