QTIC announces new Chief Executive

The Queensland Tourism Industry Council (QTIC) has announced the appointment of Brett Fraser as its new Chief Executive, replacing the outgoing Daniel Gschwind.

An experienced senior executive with over 25 years' global experience across various industries, including tourism, Fraser looks forward to serving QTIC's members, and leading our organisation and industry into a new phase of growth.

Announcing the appointment, QTIC Chairman, Shane O'Reilly stated “as we enter this new era, QTIC remains committed to advocating for the interests of our operators and revitalising our industry.

“Over the next few weeks, Daniel Gschwind will introduce Brett to industry and operators across the state, affirming our commitment to our members and the interests of Queensland's tourism industry.”

With Gschwind having previously announced his departure from QTIC, he advised today “some of you may already know Brett and will feel confident knowing that his established business insight and passion for Queensland's tourism industry will ensure the continued success of QTIC well into the future.

“Following his previous role as CEO of Brisbane Economic Development Agency, Brett is looking forward to joining QTIC and leading the organisation and our state's industry into its new phase of growth. He will use his expertise in delivering exceptional results to serve our members and advocate for Queensland's tourism and hospitality operators.

“Leaving my role here at QTIC was always going to be a logistical challenge and inevitably a bit of a disruption for the organisation. At a personal level, and after 21 years, there is also a strong sense of responsibility to our members, stakeholders and, importantly, our staff.

“I did not want to leave QTIC without the confidence that the organisation could maintain its momentum, its reputation and its capacity to deliver the support and advocacy that our industry needs. We have a small but excellent team, including our General Manager - Business Strategy and Deputy Chief Executive, Brett Kapernick, with a strong focus on the engagement with our members.

“Brett Fraser will take on my position and bring all the necessary skills to the important role that QTIC serves. I am committed to supporting Brett and the entire team in facilitating a seamless transition.

“It will be an emotional day for me when walk out this door for the last time but I know that QTIC is in the safe hands of our board and all our staff, including the new CEO.”

Fraser will take up the leadership of QTIC in late April.
