Pool Operations Training Course in WA
LIWA Aquatics and Royal Life Saving Society (WA) are backing the WA Central TAFE Pool Operations Training Course - the nationally recognised training program customised for the aquatics industry.
To be held from Monday 7th to Tuesday 15th September, and on Monday 23rd November to Tuesday 1st December, the course will be based at the RLSS Training Venue, adjacent to Perth's Challenge Stadium.
The units of competence issued upon completion of the Pool Operations course forms part of the Certificate III in Community Recreation.
The Pool Operations Certificate is the minimum qualification required to operate a public swimming pool in Western Australia. Qualifications are issued by LIWA Aquatics with the approval of the Western Australian Department of Health.
The course has been designed and customised using thirteen units of competence from the Community Recreation Training Package. This will provide clear career pathways for industry and opportunities to complete a Certificate III or IV in Community Recreation.
These competencies include:
⢠Self contained breathing apparatus
⢠Monitor and maintaining pool water
⢠Safe handling of hazardous and dangerous chemicals
⢠Occupational Safety and Health principles
⢠Emergency Response Training
⢠Safety Risk Management
⢠Operating aquatic facility plant and equipment
⢠Maintaining aquatic facility plant and equipment
⢠Organise a daily routine
Attendees should be currently working in an aquatic centre as a Pool Lifeguard or Trainee and have a rudimentary knowledge of pool operations. The applicant must have access to an aquatic facility to undertake the on-the-job training component of this course.
The course is designed to equip aquatic personnel with the necessary technical competencies to operate plant and equipment normally associated with a public aquatic facility.
Course prerequisite are a current Pool Lifeguard award and a current Senior First Aid certification.
The training program will include visits to Challenge Stadium and other aquatic venues, visits critical to the learning outcomes of the training program. They provide a valuable insight into the various types of plant and equipment utilised in Aquatic Centres.
Upon successful completion of the course, industry accreditation can be gained by presenting your Pool Operations certificate, current Senior First Aid certificate and Pool Lifeguard award to LIWA Aquatics.
The course costs $610.
