Playscape Creations awarded tender to instal new Aqua Adventure Playground in Hervey Bay
Fraser Coast Regional Council has awarded Playscape Creations the tender to instal a ninja warrior style Aqua Adventure Playground at Hervey Bay’s WetSide Water Park.
WetSide’s WaveRider is set to be removed to make way for the new $1.3 million attraction, with work to start within coming weeks and anticipated to be completed by mid-2022.
Playscape Creations will install its XTrail AQ system, an innovative and interactive obstacle course.
Fraser Coast Mayor George Seymour explained “the WaveRider had reached the end of its serviceable life and needed to be replaced. While the WaveRider was popular, we think the Aqua Adventure Playground will have a wide appeal. It can be used by families, school groups, people with disabilities and groups of friends.”
The new Aqua Adventure Playground offers an obstacle course made up of nine linked physical challenges, testing strength, agility, co-ordination, and stamina with water jets, cannons and dumpers activated as participants move through the course.
The challenge and interaction between participants and spectators is expected to be impressive - entertaining on lookers, and encouraging more participation.
Participants are timed and as they enter the course an electronic activator reads information from a wrist band or ankle band starting the timer.
Federal Member for Hinkler Keith Pitt said the new playground would be a welcome addition to the popular venue in Hervey Bay adding “this project has been funded through the Federal Government’s Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program, which is aimed at improving the liveability of ratepayers while also boosting local jobs and supporting local businesses.
“Fraser Coast Regional Council has received $5.9 million from the first two phases of this program and will receive an additional $3.8 million from 1st January 2022.
“This funding is for shovel ready projects so they can get underway as soon as possible to provide an economic benefit to the community.”
Mayor Seymour highlighted that the Playscape Creations aquatic adventure playground “fits in well with the other facilities near Seafront Oval – the Adventure Playground, the All Abilities Playground, parkour facilities and the skate park.”
