Perth’s Scarborough Amphitheatre hosts FIFA Unity Pitch
The colourful FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 Unity Pitch has been set up in Perth’s Scarborough Amphitheatre as part of a roadshow of the tournament's nine host cities across Australia and New Zealand.
The Unity Pitch will be in the Scarborough Amphitheatre until 9th March to promote community involvement and celebrate the 32 participating nations in the Cup.
There will be a host of activities including small-sided games, junior club football training sessions, fitness classes and giveaways.
Fans can watch players from the National Training Centre and Perth Glory team members - including Perth Glory A-League Captain Tash Rigby - complete their training sessions on the Unity Pitch.
WA Tourism Minister Roger Cook notes "Perth and WA are in for a huge treat when the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 comes to our State in July and August.
"The colourful Unity Pitch is a great way of stirring the excitement and enthusiasm of what's coming in July.
"What better place to do that than sunny Scarborough?
"I encourage West Aussies to get down to the Unity Pitch throughout the week - particularly over the long weekend - and have a kick about with friends, watch the football demonstrations or see their favourite Perth Glory players in action."
The Unity Pitch launch comes after the final two countries to play in Perth have been decided.
Panama will play Jamaica on 29th July, while Haiti will play Denmark on 1st August.
The other matches in Perth are Denmark v People's Republic of China on 22nd July; Republic of Ireland v Canada on 26th July; and Morocco v Colombia on 3rd August.
The five tournament matches involving nine international teams will be played at Perth Rectangular Stadium, with the Western Australian Government investing $35 million to deliver upgrades to the venue.
WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman adds "Hosting the FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 is a unique opportunity to realise a truly meaningful and lasting legacy for women's football, the community and the State - and indeed, across the whole of Australia - by highlighting pathways into the sport, boosting participation, and encouraging young women to play at an elite level.
"This pinnacle event for women's football will present visitors, local players and fans with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of a global sporting spectacular, and this week's Unity Pitch at Scarborough Beach will offer a taste of the excitement to come.”
The month-long FIFA Women's World Cup 2023 tournament will kick off across Australia and New Zealand on 20th July 2023.
Forrest Place in Perth will be the venue for the FIFA Fan Festival during the tournament from 20th July to 20th August, providing a hub for fans to enjoy live matches, music and performances.
