Perth secures the Australian leg of Rugby’s HSBC SVNS for 2024 and 2025

Perth has secured an Australian-exclusive for 2024 and 2025 after signing a deal to host the Australian leg of Rugby’s HSBC SVNS (the event was previously known as the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series)

Perth is to host games alongside other cities including Hong Kong, Madrid and Los Angeles.

The event is supported by the Western Australian Government and will take place from 26th-28th January 2024 and again in 2025 at HBF Park.

HSBC SVNS attracts the world's top rugby nations to play an alternative rugby union format which involves seven players competing in seven-minute halves in a tournament format with round robin and knockout matches over three days.

WA Premier Roger Cook noted "we know there is a huge rugby following in Australia and overseas, and this event is set to boost WA tourism and hospitality businesses, while cementing Perth's reputation as a world leader in hosting major global events.

"Hosting HSBC SVNS is the beginning of a 'golden decade' of Rugby in Perth, as we look towards the Rugby World Cup in 2027 and 2029."

WA Sport and Recreation Minister David Templeman added "this is a fantastic outcome for Western Australia and once again highlights Perth as one of the best cities in the world for sporting events.

"We're already in the midst of a sporting feast with the FIFA Women's World Cup and EPL games, and that will continue with the HSBC SVSN coming to town in January."

HSBC SVNS has a strong following in many of WA's key international inbound tourism markets including the United Kingdom, Singapore, China and the United States.

Twelve men's and twelve women's national teams will go head-to-head in seven regular season events, with round three set to take place in Perth plus a Grand Final.

The other rounds will take place in Dubai, Hong Kong, Singapore, Cape Town, Madrid, Vancouver and Los Angeles, placing WA on a global stage as a world-leading host of major sporting events.

The top eight placed teams, based on cumulative series points following the penultimate round of SVNS in Singapore, will compete in the new 'winner takes all' Grand Final in Madrid, where the women's and men's SVNS champions will take the trophy.

A fan festival will surround the Perth event to build on the rugby fever and provide a carnival-like hub for visitors and locals to enjoy before, during and after the matches.

World Rugby has launched a 'Destination: SVNS' campaign to promote the new SVNS brand as an unmissable summer event with an exciting program of activities, entertainment and immersive experiences.

HSBC SVNS was established in 1999 and has continued to grow in popularity, with the event elevated to the Olympic Games in 2016.
