Parramatta Council unveils its new synthetic sports field at Rydalmere Park
Following the completion of stage one of the ground’s multi-million-dollar upgrade, Rydalmere Park’s new state-of-the-art synthetic sports field is ready for the Parramatta community and sporting clubs.
Improvements to the northern sporting field include new synthetic turf and wider playing field, a synthetic warm up area, new lighting, fencing, and spectator seating. The upgrades were funded through the NSW Government’s Greater Sydney Sports Facility Fund and City of Parramatta Council.
The new synthetic pitch, which can be used seven days a week all year round, will provide more capacity and accommodate the increasing demands of Parramatta’s rapidly growing population.
City of Parramatta Council Lord Mayor Cr Bob Dwyer advised “I am delighted to announce that stage one of the major upgrades to Rydalmere Park are now complete.
“These upgrades will make a big difference to our community and sporting clubs who rely on Council’s open spaces and facilities for sport, recreation, and leisure.
“With COVID-19 restrictions now easing and community sports able to resume from 1st July, I am looking forward to seeing our local teams enjoy this first-class pitch on home soil. “
NSW Acting Minister for Sport, the Honourable Geoff Lee MP, said that quality open spaces and sporting facilities are vital for urban communities and added “improving local sport infrastructure plays a vital role in keeping communities healthy, active and inclusive.
“The state-of-the-art synthetic pitch and new lighting at Rydalmere Park will give the Parramatta community access to a top class playing surface all year round, day and night.”
Rydalmere Football Club president Peter Bacha thanked City of Parramatta Council and the NSW Government for the long-anticipated renovations.
“It was great to work with the City of Parramatta to ensure that the upgrades made at Rydalmere Park would meet the needs of local sporting clubs.
“It is wonderful to have access to such high quality sporting facilities right here in Parramatta, allowing more opportunities for our teams to compete at the highest levels of the National Premier League.”
Planning for stage two of the Rydalmere Park Masterplan is currently underway. The second stage will include upgrades to the two southern fields with natural turf, drainage and irrigation, relocation of the carpark, and upgrades to the park’s cricket facilities.
