Paradise Recreation Plaza secures PLA award for ‘Park of the Year’

Paradise Recreation Plaza, situated in Adelaide's north-east, has secured the award for ‘Park of the Year’ at the SA/NT PLA awards 2024.

Paradise Recreation Plaza nestled among the mature tree line that runs along the banks of the river Torrens brings together a range of outdoor recreation and play in an inviting community space.

The project was a collaborative effort between The Trail Collective, Convic, Campbelltown City Council (SA), JPE Studios, and LCS Landscapes.

Paradise Recreation Plaza was a renewal of an existing space to improve flow, connectivity and activation.

The Trail Collective, a family and rider owned and operated company based in Adelaide, and Convic were engaged as part of the project team to conduct community consultation, design and planning services.

Community feedback desired a new skatepark that replaced the outdated but much-loved park in a sensitive and respectful manner; often drawing on the old skatepark and surrounding natural landscape for inspiration and influence.

The design needed to include interesting dirt jump sections, return line and an asphalt pump track. Community feedback showed 90% were in favour of what was designed.

The design catered mostly for beginner and intermediate users with skill development lines throughout the space for increased enjoyment. The design intent was to have a seamless integration to and from the pump track to the skate park. Something truly unique for the area.

Campbelltown City Council shared "Thanks for working together with us on this great project! It's wonderful to see this amazing space receive this award.”
