Palmerston to hold its inaugural Street Art Festival

By Karen Sweaney

Palmerston, situated approximately 20 kilometres from Darwin, is preparing to host its inaugural Street Art Festival – being held between 17th and 29th June 2024.

The festival which is being delivered by Proper Creative, will see several walls in the Palmerston and surrounding areas transformed into masterpieces, with the festival building upon Palmerston’s growing art culture.

Proper Creative is a partnership between David Collins and Jesse Bell - both artists have a strong background in the rich history of graffiti and street art in Darwin and the NT.

Palmerston Street Art Festival Director, David Collins shared “This is something that we’ve been wanting to deliver for a while now, we are so excited to take the Proper Creative energy into a new city.”

“There’s some serious artistic talent in Palmerston - you’re all going to love this.”

More than 50% of the artist line-up will feature artists from Palmerston and surrounding suburbs and will also feature household names in the Northern Territory art scene, such as Jesse Bell, Jason Lee, Les Huddleston and Miss Polly.

Building the capacity of talent is an important objective of the festival, with the more experienced artists teaming up with the up-and-coming artists through mentoring programs.

Palmerston residents can expect to see unique, large and colourful murals come to life, and a wrap-up party to celebrate.

The Palmerston Street Art Festival is jointly funded by the NT Government, through Activate Darwin and the City of Palmerston.
