Palace Cinemas to build 15 screen complex at Pentridge Prison site

Palace Cinemas is set to open a 15 screen cinema complex on the site of Melbourne’s former Pentridge Prison.

The cinema, temporarily named Palace Champ Street, forms part of a large-scale redevelopment of the prison site, located in the suburb of Coburg, by the Shayher Group.

The cinema will sit within a 3,650 metre² boutique retail precinct, alongside a hotel, apartments and offices, although it will not be located within the heritage building.

Announcing the development, Palace Cinemas Chief Executive Benjamin Zeccola advised in a statement “my family’s vision for Palace Champ Street is to create a warm, vibrant, film, arts, and hospitality hub, which will unite cinema lovers of all ages and cultural backgrounds.”

Palace is also currently developing new cinemas in Sydney’s Central Park and Double Bay.

The screens are expected to open in mid-2019.
