Orange Regional Museum plans for multiple exhibitions in 2020
When the doors open to the Orange Regional Museum’s next travelling exhibition from the Australian Museum on Friday 27th March, visitors will be greeted with a new layout in the Museum’s exhibition space. Instead of one large gallery, the Museum will have two exhibition spaces, separated by a modular wall system.
The first temporary exhibition in this redesigned space will launch in time for FOOD Week when members of the community are invited to join in the celebrations. The new exhibition from the Australian Museum, Capturing Nature: Early photography at the Australian Museum 1857-1893 will be opened by curator Vanessa Finney of the Australian Museum.
The division of the space will herald a new and exciting mode of exhibition delivery, giving the Museum greater flexibility and creativity in the use of the space and allowing them to host two exhibitions at the same time.
One gallery will be dedicated to hosting up to four temporary exhibitions every year, including some borrowed from museums across the county and some locally curated. This will bring a fresh program of exciting new ideas and stories, and a more in-depth examination of some of our local people, places, and events.
The other half of the reconfigured Museum will become a permanent gallery, which will host an exhibition exploring local history for locals and visitors alike. With an emphasis on re-examining well-known histories and uncovering new tales, the exhibition, titled Inherit: old and new histories, will open at the end of May.
