Online event to explore value of Low-Carb diets
At a time of considerable debate between proponents of low-carb diets and traditional nutrition, a special online event ‘Low-Carb Diets - #FadOrFuture?’ is being held on 23rd February.
Organised by the SmartShape Centre for Weight Management, the 90-minute online event is open to both health professionals and the public.
Intrdocuing the event, SmartShape Director and Nutritionist, Matt O’Neill explains “everyone eats and has an opinion on low-carb diets, so this is an easy way to update your knowledge, know-how and views on nutrition’s hottest topic.”
Issues to be explored include: What exactly is a low-carbohydrate diet? How healthy is it? What foods should you be eating? Is a low-carbohydrate diet something you should consider or is a high-carbohydrate diet still the best way to eat? These questions and more will all be answered.
O’Neill, who has trained health professionals in weight management for over 20 years, will be joined by Pennie Taylor, who will share her experiences using lower carbohydrate diets with clients as part of a personalised nutrition approach.
Taylot is the founding director of EvolvME, a multi-disciplinary weight management clinic that delivers supervised lower carbohydrate dietary patterns to a range of clients.
The third speaker, Tim Crowe is the evidence and research geek at this event and will be talking about dietary patterns and wellbeing, including the Paleo and Mediterranean diets. Crowe has been Associate Professor in Nutrition at Deakin University and is founder of Thinking Nutrition, one of the fastest growing nutrition blogs.
O’Neill adds “we aim to answer both the big science and practical questions people have about low-carb diets, all in simple language and without food industry sponsorship.”
Participants are also invited to post their questions on Facebook or Twitter for the speakers to see before the event (sarch @FadOrFuture or #fadorfuture).
‘Low-Carb Diets - #FadOrFuture?’ is on at 11am (AEDT), Thursday 23rd February 2017.
The online webinar can be viewed on any device with an internet connection while a recording with notes will be available for anyone who cannot make it live.
