Vacant parcels of land transformed into vibrant community parks

The City of Playford has transformed once vacant parcels of land on Virgo Street, Elizabeth South and Barrow Crescent, Elizabeth Vale into vibrant community parks, now open for residents to enjoy.

The newly developed parks both feature a range of play equipment, including a multi-play structure and nature play elements designed to inspire creativity and active play.

Complementing these are a sheltered picnic area and irrigated turf, making them the ideal destination for families and community gatherings.

The development of both parks was guided by community input, ensuring the spaces meet the needs and desires of local residents.

These projects are part of the City of Playford's broader initiative to enhancing public spaces across the region, reaffirming its commitment to maintaining high-quality, accessible open spaces for all residents.

Mayor Glenn Docherty said it was pleasing to see the transition from vacant land to amazing new play spaces and added “the creation of these parks is more than just a development; it's about enriching community life by providing a central hub for recreation and connection.

“I'm proud to see it become a cherished part of our community.”

Pop-up parties were held at each park on Friday 18th July, with local residents living near the reserves invited to come along and celebrate their new spaces. Free activities and treats like donuts, fruit and hot drinks, were provided as part of the neighbourhood parties.

“It was a brilliant day shared with the very people who will enjoy these parks the most,” added Mayor Docherty.

The upgrade was made possible through a partnership between the South Australian Housing Trust and City of Playford.
