Oceania and Asia winners announced at 2022 World Travel Awards
Returning for 2022, the World Travel Awards, the global tourism industry's most prestigious awards program, have named their winners for the Asia and Oceania regions.
Among the award winners, New Zealand was recognised in key categories, securing the title of as Oceania’s Leading Destination along with Tourism New Zealand winning the trophy for Oceania’s Leading Tourist Board.
Other Oceania winners included Air New Zealand (named Oceania’s Leading Airline), Auckland Airport (named Oceania’s Leading Airport) and Millbrook Resort securing the Award for being Oceania's Leading Hotel.
Melbourne was named Oceania's Leading City Destination.
In Asia, Vietnam earned the title of Asia’s Leading Destination, while its capital of Hanoi claimed the top prize for Asia’s Leading City Break Destination, and Ho Chi Minh City won the award for Asia’s Leading Business Travel Destination
Announced this week at gala ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City attended by tourism leaders from 35 nations, AirAsia collected the award for Asia’s Leading Low-Cost Airline, Singapore Changi Airport was named Asia’s Leading Airport, and Royal Brunei Airlines won the title of Asia’s Leading Cabin Crew.
Newcomer winners included Jakarta’s The Langham (named Asia’s Leading New Hotel) and Regent Phu Quoc (named Asia’s Leading Resort).
Cambodia secured its first-ever World Travel Awards for Asia’s Leading Cultural Destination and Asia’s Leading Youth Travel Destination while the refined elegance of Raffles Singapore claimed the ultimate hospitality award for Asia’s Leading Hotel.
Commenting on the event, WTA founder, Graham Cooke “Ho Chi Minh City is an impressive cosmopolitan destination, rich in history and culture but with a dynamic, forward-thinking outlook.”
Speaking about the ceremony, Cooke added “what an incredible evening was had by our blue-chip audience. As shining examples of tourism excellence, our winners have helped to raise the bar.
“We foresee unprecedented growth as more brands and tourism development products are attracted to the nation.
“Vietnam is not only a tremendously exciting destination within Asia, but I believe it will soon become a tourism epicentre on the global stage.”
Celebrating its 29th anniversary year in 2022, the annual program includes a series of regional gala ceremonies culminate in the World Awards Grand Final, to be held later this year.
The World Travel Awards will hold its Middle East Gala Ceremony 2022 at The Ritz-Carlton, Amman, Jordan on 18th September 2022.
