NT Performing Arts Awards to honour achievements across stage, classroom, and behind-the-scenes

Nominations are now open for the NT Performing Arts Awards, presented by the Northern Territory Government in recognition of Territorians’ outstanding achievements on the stage, in the classroom, and behind-the-scenes.

The Awards were established in 2019 by the We3 Alliance - an initiative of Brown’s Mart Arts, Tracks Dance and Corrugated Iron Youth Arts.

The peer-judged Awards will celebrate those who make a creative difference to the NT community by honouring talented and inspiring artists and arts-workers across genres such as dance, music, theatre, opera, circus, and comedy.

NT Acting Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage Lauren Moss shared “The Northern Territory is home to a range of very talented, creative performing artists and arts workers, who deserve recognition for their contribution to the social fabric of our community.

“Our creative industries are an important economic driver in the NT, and the Performing Arts Awards is a time to acknowledge and celebrate all those who sustain the sector.”

The 2023 NT Performing Arts Awards categories are:

  • Outstanding Performer Award - recognises a performing artist who has made a significant impact on stage;

  • Young Achiever Award - recognises a young artist who has made a significant impact on stage;

  • Outstanding Creative Award - recognises the creative talent behind outstanding performances including choreographers, designers, directors, producers, and writers;

  • Behind the Scenes Award - recognises excellent work behind the scenes by technicians, stage managers, project co-ordinators, and others;

  • Legend Award - recognises an arts practitioner who has made a significant, long-term contribution to the NT performing arts sector;

  • Inspiration Award - recognises an inspirational performing arts educator;

  • Best Performance Award - celebrates an outstanding NT production recognised by its originality, quality of work on stage and behind the scenes, as well as audience reception; and

  • Impact Award - recognises work by an individual or organisation that resulted in a significant contribution to the performing arts, or influence on the community.

Nominations, which are open to the public, will be judged by a panel of industry professionals.

Nominations must be submitted online at https://creativeeconomy.nt.gov.au/ntpa-awards before 20th October 2023.

The NT Performing Arts Awards will be presented on Monday 20th November 2023.
