NSW Government extends strategic partnership with Minerva Network for women in sport program

The NSW Government has agreed to extend its partnership with the Minerva Network enabling the Minerva Network to continue to work closely with the Office of Sport on opportunities with the ‘Her Sport Her Way’ women in sport program – a program designed to inspire more young Australians to participate in sport and to lead an active and healthy lifestyle.

Minerva Network Chairman Christine McLoughlin and Minerva Network NSW Chapter Leader Ann Sherry were joined by NSW Minister for Sport Geoff Lee in Sydney to announce the extension of the funding agreement.

McLoughlin  notes “our amazing elite female athletes are inspirational role models for young Australians and we believe we can achieve so much teaming up with the NSW Government to support the Her Sport Her Way program.

“Minerva entered into a partnership with the NSW Government last year and we feel we have already helped shape the future of women’s sport in NSW and throughout Australia.”

Minister Lee said the continued partnership with the Minerva Network will help develop and support female leaders within sport adding “our female athletes continue to shine on the world stage and it’s important they have recognition and opportunities off the field as well.

“Leveraging the extensive business experience of the Minerva Network will ensure our female athletes develop skills to be leaders both on and off the sporting field.”    

Since August 2020, the Minerva Network has teamed with the Office of Sport to support the Her Sport Her Way program to enhance women in sport participation and to help more young Australians achieve their personal goals.

Minerva athletes have regularly been involved in the design and delivery of Her Sport Her Way sessions as role models and contributors.

By connecting Australia’s elite stars of women’s sport with some of the nation’s most inspiring business leaders, the Minerva Network is committed to helping our leading athletes become inspirational role models for the next generation of young Australians, and to identify projects in their respective communities where they can step in as leaders, encourage activity and bring about social cohesion.

The Minerva Network has grown exponentially over the past 12 months, with a 100% increase in the number of supported athletes. Minerva aims to connect with all women athletes competing at the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games.

The NSW Office of Sport’s Her Sport Her Way program aims to build a stronger sport sector where women and girls are valued, recognised and have equal choices and opportunities to lead and participate.

Her Sport Her Way builds on the momentum in women’s sport and looks through a fresh lens at the way that sport in NSW is delivered, coached, marketed, led, sponsored and consumed.
