Northern Territory Government offers wellbeing grants for international students

The Northern Territory Government is offering International Student Wellbeing Grants of up to $10,000 for employment skills initiatives, leadership programs, sporting, community and multicultural events, as well as mental health awareness activities.

The International Student Wellbeing Grants Program is now open for applications from businesses, student groups and community organisations to deliver activities or events that promote or improve wellbeing for international students.

International Students are a huge part of the Territory makeup and a vital part of achieving a $40 billion economy by 2030.

Since 2018, the Northern Territory Government has provided $800,000 for activities and events through the International Student Wellbeing Grants Program.

The wellbeing grants are designed to enrich students’ lives outside the classroom and support their social connections, sense of belonging and overall wellbeing.

Student wellbeing is vital for growth in the international education and training sector and students sharing positive experiences of their life in the Territory helps to attract more students.

More than 4,100 international students are currently enrolled to study with the Territory’s education and training providers, delivering $169 million into the economy and supporting more than 660 jobs.

NT Minister for International Education, Ngaree Ah Kit shares “we strive to make the Northern Territory the destination of choice for international students as they make a significant contribution to our economy, strengthen our workforce and add to our vibrant multiculturalism.

“These grants are an investment in our plan to continue to grow our international student numbers by ensuring the Territory remains a destination of choice for students from overseas.

“Ensuring that students receive a quality education and are supported provides an incentive for more international students to choose the Northern Territory.”
