Nitro World Games come to Australia for first time and hosted at Suncorp Stadium
Nitro World Games, the largest global action sports event, is coming to Australia for the first time where it will be held at Brisbane’s Suncorp Stadium on 22nd-23rd October.
Nitro World Games, created by Nitro Circus star Travis Pastrana, represents the next evolution of action sports competition. Featuring new big air formats, breakthrough ramp technology and innovative judging criteria, Nitro World Games shifted the landscape for both athletes and the industry alike in its revolutionary 2016 debut. The event immediately revitalised competition after years of stagnation, giving athletes a transformational platform to push the limits of progression as they attempted world’s first tricks never seen before.
Action sports leaders, Nitro Circus are producing Nitro World Games in partnership with the Queensland Government through Tourism and Events Queensland alongside Brisbane City Council’s Brisbane Economic Development Agency. Together, this collaboration will also stage a full calendar of preview exhibitions in the run-up to the Nitro World Games championship weekend, both in Brisbane as well as locations across Queensland and in Sydney. These will include athlete clinics, autograph signings, school visits and more, all to engage fans, educate area residents on these exciting disciplines and introduce young enthusiasts to action sports. More details on these community events will be announced soon.
Nitro Circus has revealed the elite athletes that will battle at Nitro World Games Brisbane: More than 70 top competitors from five continents will vie for the podium in Freestyle Motocross (FMX), FMX Best Trick, BMX Best Trick, BMX Triple Hit, Skate Vert and Scooter Best Trick, with more to be announced.
Nitro Circus is now part of Thrill One Sports & Entertainment, uniting Street League Skateboarding (SLS), Nitro Rallycross and Thrill One Media to form the world’s largest independent action sports company.
Joe Carr, Chief Executive of Thrill One Sports & Entertainment, Nitro World Games’ parent company, enthused “we are very excited to bring the biggest action sports event in the world to Brisbane, a marquee host city for premier sport. The past two years have undoubtedly been challenging ones for live sport but now, with the best athletes set to showcase their elite skills in front of a global audience, the wait will have been worth it. To have this opportunity is possible thanks to the great support of our partners Tourism Events Queensland and the Brisbane Economic Development Agency, who have shown their vision and commitment every step of the way.”
Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner added “Securing the Nitro World Games for Brisbane this October is a massive win for fans and the city’s economy.
“As the first place outside the USA to host this major event, adrenaline-seeking fans from across Australia will get to see local Queensland heroes Ryan Williams and Logan Martin compete in front of a home crowd, with an amazing atmosphere expected at Suncorp Stadium.
“With tens of thousands of spectators anticipated over two days, and 70 competitors from five continents coming to Brisbane to compete, our local hotels, restaurants and retailers are set to benefit from a $20 million economic injection.”
