Newcastle Knights name Peter Parr as new Chief Executive

The Newcastle Knights have announced a significant leadership transition that will see Philip Gardner, the current Chief Executive of Wests Group, officially transfer management responsibilities of the NRL club to Peter Parr.

Parr, who joined the Knights in 2022 as Director of Football, has contributed to a broader senior leadership succession strategy designed for long-term stability during his tenure. Upon assuming the role of Chief Executive, he will be responsible for steering the Club’s strategic direction and operational priorities.

Simultaneously, Chris James will step into the Director of Football position, succeeding Parr effective the same date. James, who joined the Knights in January as General Manager - Football Operations, is acknowledged as having played a crucial role in the long-term succession plan. His extensive rugby league knowledge and leadership skills are expected to maintain and advance the momentum within the Club’s football operations.

Parr and James have established a collaborative working relationship since James’ arrival, fostering a reliable foundation that is anticipated to ensure consistency and alignment throughout the impending transition.

In a statement, the Knights advised "these leadership changes exemplify a well-considered succession plan, which has received the backing of the Wests Board of Directors, reinforcing the organisation’s commitment to stable and cohesive leadership across The Wests Group."

The change will be effective as of 1st November 2025.
