Newcastle Basketball launches virtual tour of Hunter Indoor Sports Centre
Coinciding with the facility’s re-exhibition from 21st August, Newcastle Basketball has launched a virtual tour of the proposed Hunter Indoor Sports Centre (HISC).
The virtual tour includes a project webpage featuring a 'fly-through', interactive floor plan and frequently asked questions.
When complete, the HISC is expected to boast multi-purpose indoor courts, allied health suites, a gym and movement studio, café and social spaces, versatile function rooms, accessible change rooms, spectator seating and ample car parking.
Project consultant Simon Haire advised "we’ve developed some more information and images to help sport lovers and the general community to get a better feel for the venture.
“For the first time, everyone can sneak a simulated look inside the building and see many of the activities that will take place.”
The ‘virtual tour’ also complements comprehensive material available through the re-exhibition of the State Significant Development Application (SSDA) on the planning portal.
The exhibition period will run for four weeks until Wednesday 17th September.
Newcastle Basketball is also preparing to facilitate 'drop in' sessions to provide the opportunity for community members to ask questions about the project.
If built, the HISC will replace the ageing Newcastle Basketball Stadium and secure the long-term future of indoor sport in the region.
Beyond its sporting benefits, the project plays a key role in advancing the Broadmeadow Place Strategy as well, paving the way for essential new housing and urban renewal in the area.
Newcastle Basketball board member, Larry Davidson noted “this is a vital community undertaking that will break down barriers to participation in sport and physical activity.
“It will support a range of sports including basketball, volleyball, badminton, netball, futsal and pickleball.
“The facility is designed to be fully-accessible and inclusive, ensuring people of all ages and abilities can be physically and socially active in a community atmosphere.
“We’d encourage everyone who backs the project to make a submission via the planning portal to ensure the Department of Planning understands the need for the facility and the benefits it will create.”
