New Zealand Golf endorses Project Litefoot's LiteClub
New Zealand Golf is endorsing an initiative seeking to inspire New Zealanders to become environmental champions.
Project Litefoot is a charitable trust led by seven top sportspeople and it's LiteClub initiative is all about activating community sport to follow their lead.
LiteClub is an entirely free service for sports clubs made possible by the support from the New Zealand Ministry of the Environment, ASB Community Trust, the Lion Foundation and EECA.
All Black centre Conrad Smith, one of seven elite sportspeople to back the campaign, explains "we're helping sports clubs measure and reduce their environmental impact, saving them cash in the process."
In addtion to Smith, Project Litefoot is backed by Michael Campbell, Barbara Kendall, the Evers-Swindell twins, Brendon McCullum and Daniel Kereopa.
It is believed that LiteClub will bring benefits in three key areas: it will free up money for sport, it will improve environmental footprints and it will strengthen communities.
Litefoot's LiteClub works as follows:
• Upon registering, in three easy steps, the club will be on its way to becoming lite-footed.
• Firstly, The LiteClub team visits the club. From club records they collect energy, fuel, water and waste data to form the club's 'base year'. They will check over your building looking for energy-saving opportunities: like upgrade lightbulbs, install hot water cylinder insulation and install tap aerators there and then.
• Secondly, they will produce an Environmental Impact Report. They send out a thorough report setting out a range of recommendations that will help the club further reduce environmental impact, freeing up more money for sport.
• Finally, is the rewards and recognition and member involvement. Top effort is rewarded with great prizes and recognition. Litefoot's sports heroes also work with the club to get members involved that result in brilliant fundraising opportunities.
New Zealand Golf's Marketing Manager Jan Burrows believes that Litefoot is a win-win for golf clubs around New Zealand, stating "many of our golf clubs are strapped for cash so not only does this provide them with an opportunity to be environmentally friendly, but to reduce costs, save money and receive thousands of dollars of free energy saving products, thanks to LiteClub."
