New waterslides opened at Rockhampton pool

Three new waterslides have been opened at Rockhampton’s 42nd Battalion Memorial Pool running from this Saturday.

Replacing the complex’s former slides, the $1.3 million project has seen Swimplex Aquatics install three state-of-the-art Polin Waterparks slides along with a new tower.

Rockhampton Region Mayor Margaret Strelow expects the three 10-metre slides to be especially popular over the summer school holidays, stating “we are expecting thousands of people to enjoy the slides.”

Following the Council’s recent upgrades to the facility earlier this year, Rockhampton Parks and Recreation Committee Chair Councillor Cherie Rutherford said the slides will offer an adventurous element for teenagers and the young at heart.

Rutherford stated “we particularly wanted to address the needs of our teenagers and young adults by offering a more thrill-seeking option in our recreational parks.

“The previous slides were extremely popular, but over time wear and tear took hold, so we were absolutely thrilled to be bringing them back, to not only give the young kids but also the older kids a place to really enjoy themselves with their friends.”

Slide users have to be taller than 1.2 metre and weigh less than 120 kilograms, with 60 riders permitted per 30 minute period.

To minimise queuing wristbands are used to allocated access, with sessions costing $2.

The project was partly funded by the Queensland Government’s Works for Queensland program.
