New sports amenity blocks for Upper Lachlan Shire

Upper Lachlan Shire Council is celebrating the official opening of new local amenities blocks at local community sport facilities.

Seeing the new facilities as a step in the right direction for female involvement in local sport, Upper Lachlan Shire Council Chief Executive, Alex Waldron commented “one of the main purposes of the new amenities block was to address inadequate change room facilities at the ground for women and girls.”

In addition to the Lin Cooper Fields amenities block in Crookwell, the Gunning Showground amenities block will also soon come online.

Funding for the Lin Cooper block included $978,601 from the NSW Government’s Regional Sport Facilities Fund and $90,900 from Veolia Mulwaree Trust, which was matched by Council.

Waldron added "this injection of funds will provide improved change facilities and overall better amenities for sporting teams and their supporters.

“We are also lucky to have a state local member in Wendy Tuckerman who is not only aware of the needs of the villages and communities in the Shire but also has longstanding links and involvement in sports, particularly women’s sports, and has strongly supported this and other similar projects.

“Of course this facility is for all sports people, of all ages and all genders, but is particularly commendable for addressing the often unmet need for women’s facilities.”
