New Queenstown playground features climbing structures and flying fox

Queenstown Lakes District Council has advised on the opening of a new playground in Luggate in the space adjacent to Whare Mahana Luggate Memorial Centre.

The playground introduces an array of features to keep children of all ages engaged, from a climbing structure and swings to a new double flying fox.

To celebrate, Queenstown Lakes District Council (QLDC) and Luggate Community Association hosted an official opening at the playground yesterday 12th May.

QLDC Parks Officer, Diana Manson said she was thrilled for the township’s young families in the area, noting community support and feedback had played a significant role in ensuring the new Hopkins Street Playground would meet the needs of residents and visitors for years to come.

“I’d like to share my thanks to Luggate’s residents and the wider Upper Clutha for their patience while we worked to build the play space, and for their invaluable input to help shape this space and what will once again be a cornerstone of the community,” shared Manson.

Queenstown Lakes District Council also acknowledged work undertaken by Plot Landscape and Green By Nature for helping make the playground's designs a reality.

On the opening, Glyn Lewers QLDC Mayor added “a great morning in Luggate today, with the opening of the new community playground in Hopkins Street. Awesome that the Parks and Recreation staff at Queenstown Lakes District Council were acknowleged by Rod Anderson of the Luggate Community Association. Grateful to have Cllr Barry Bruce helping out with the formalities.”
