New lighting adds to the upgrades completed at Diamond Creek Netball Courts
Nillumbik Shire Council has officially launched the lighting upgrade at the courts in Diamond Creek – a premier sporting destination in Melbourne’s north, with the lighting upgrade building on the significant investment by both Council and the Victorian Government into the courts over the past two years including a new pavilion, and the resurfacing of the eight netball courts.
The $330,000 LED lighting upgrade will provide brighter lighting for games and training that is more energy efficient.
The old asphalt courts were replaced last year with Netball Victoria compliant competition courts featuring a Rebound Ace surface, new line marking, shelters for teams and seating for spectators.
The upgraded pavilion now features a new multipurpose social room and office, kitchen/canteen, unisex change areas for umpires and players and a storage and car park expansion.
Nillumbik Mayor Ben Ramcharan noted “we’re committed to providing high-quality, inclusive sport and recreation facilities in the Shire.”
The courts are one of five sporting grounds across the Shire to receive lighting upgrades thanks to almost $1.5 million in funding from the Victorian Government’s Community Sports Infrastructure Stimulus Program. Council has contributed $150,000 to the five projects which also include the Diamond Hills Reserve, Bridge Street Oval in Eltham, Eltham Lower Park front oval and the Hurstbridge High Oval in Graysharps Road.
