New height-adjustable netball posts installed at Heffron Park in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs
Randwick City Council has recently completed the installation of new netball posts at Heffron Park, which are height adjustable for both senior and junior play. These new poles will assist more than 4,000 players learn how to play netball.
The 24 height-adjustable posts were installed across 12 courts. They can be adjusted from 2.44 metres for junior play to 3.05 metres for adult or senior play.
Council contracted Sydney-based RMA Sport to install the posts. The posts are a new hybrid product in their range, which was developed for Council and is engineered to stand up to the rigours of outdoor use for many years to come.
RMA Sport was established in 1999 and since this time has provided sports and recreation facilities across Australia, Asia, New Zealand and the South Pacific with high quality sports equipment, surfaces and advice.
The new posts are significantly stronger than the original posts and they incorporate a larger galvanised steel base for maximum strength and rigidity that won’t rust. Custom aluminium was used for the top section that slides from the full height down to the junior level.
The custom aluminium section means the posts are light and easy to adjust, but they are still strong and won’t rust. These post were tested for strength prior to installation, and found they could tolerate heavy duty use in an open public park environment. The handle is retractable both for safety and ease of operation. There is also a locking adjustment mechanism that can be fitted with a padlock to prevent unauthorised use.
The posts have been designed so that they are always aligned during the height adjustment operation and present in the correct orientation for play. Plus, they have additional devices to tighten up the systems and reduce any movement when being used.
