New Cobden Community Fitness Centre opens its doors

Locals in the Corangamite Shire town of Cobden now have new options to keep fit and active with the new Cobden Community Fitness Centre now officially open.

Made possible thanks to Sport and Recreation Victoria’s (SRV) Community Sports Infrastructure Fund and the Victorian Premier’s Pick My Project initiative, the new facility was developed as a result of SRV working in partnership with Cobden Health and Corangamite Shire Council.

The new Centre will provide public and accessible multipurpose gymnasium and fitness facilities for the wider Cobden community, and will complement the nearby Rodney Grove Aquatic Centre.

The new gym features a dedicated equipment room including treadmills, exercise bikes and step machines, a flexible training room with free weights and medicine balls as well as a large indoor-outdoor multipurpose training area to cater for Pilates, yoga and personal training classes.

With engagement of 6,593 community members across Barwon South West in Premier’s Active April 2019, this investment can provide ongoing access and opportunities for active recreation across Corangamite.

In a statement, SRV advise “gyms and fitness centres, like the Cobden Community Fitness Centre, are hugely important for local communities to keep residents fit and active.

“This project is part of our strong commitment to sport and active recreation, gender equality and encouraging all Victorians to get out there and get active.

“We know that participation in sport and recreation saves $245 million in lifetime avoided health costs and $3.1 billion in lifetime workforce productivity for Victoria.”

The Victorian Government has invested more than $850 million in community sport and active recreation infrastructure since 2014.
