New Business Manager gets on board at Dart River

Ngai Tahu Tourism operator Dart River has welcomed on board experienced tourism management professional Harald Ulriksen as its new Business Manager.

Known to all and sundry as ‘H’, he brings a long history of event management and leadership experience to the role, having held senior positions in the tourism industry across New Zealand and internationally.

One of his first jobs for Dart River was presenting a $3,800 donation from the annual Local’s Day to this year’s chosen charity Glenorchy Heritage Museum Group.

Chairwoman Elaine Kirkland said they were “delighted” with money raised from the Local’s Day, adding “the donation is going towards the build of the new museum in Glenorchy.

“We’re very grateful for any money contributed and funding all helps reach our final goal.

“Hopefully in the next few months the plans will be finalised and we’ll have a better idea of the final cost.”

Ulriksen’s experience includes running large-scale events with a global entertainment company including an international ice skating arena show tour in Europe, opening a luxury lodge on the River Nile in remote Uganda and various event management and hospitality roles across the world.

Ulriksen has spent the last five years running very long distances for cancer charities, including a 3700 kilometres run along the length of Chile, and a 1000 kilometre run in the UK.

Ulriksen is “really excited” to be back in New Zealand and Glenorchy to take up the new role, having previously lived here 15 years ago.

He explains “the new role is a great opportunity for me to come back and work in this amazing environment surrounded by mountains, lake and water.

“As someone who loves the outdoors, the opportunities for me here are endless.”

Ulriksen believes that the Dart River Jet is “one of the best live entertainment shows going.”

He adds “the service we provide - from the jet boat team to the bus drivers – is my main focus for Dart River.”

Southern Regional General Manager David Kennedy is “thrilled” to welcome Harald to the Dart River team, concluding “this has been a hugely busy year for Dart River and with H at the helm we’re looking to build on that.”
