New brand and new board to represent tourism in regional Australia

Reporting on events at its successful annual conference last month, Australian Regional Tourism Ltd, formerly the Australian Regional Tourism Network Inc, has revealed not only its new name but a new brand and a new Board for 2017/18.

The last week of October saw Australian Regional Tourism (ART) welcome 130 delegates from every State and Territory to its Australian Regional Tourism Convention in Canberra.

Highlights of the week included the unveiling of ART’s new branding at the Welcome Reception on Monday 23rd October, while, at the Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 25th October its 2017/18 Board was elected.

As a result ART will be governed by the following directors in 2017/18:

• Simon McArthur (Chair), Managing Director, SMA Tourism
• Coralie Bell (Deputy Chair), Tourism Manager, Visit Shoalhaven
• Stuart Lamont (Treasurer), Chief Executive, Caravan Industry Association of Australia
• Linda Tillman, Managing Director, Tilma Group
• Lucy White, Destination Development Manager, Destination Bathurst
• Nick Baker, Chief Executive Outdoria
• Andrew Hiebl, Chief Executive, Association of Australian Convention Bureaux Inc
• Dale McIver, Director, Alice Event Management & Consultancy
• Patricia Wilkinson, Tourism Strategy - Senior Project Officer, NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service

McArthur, Lamont, Tillman and White were each re-elected to the Board.

Commenting on the period of change, McArthur stated “last month’s AGM was very well attended, and the vacancies were hotly contested. I am pleased to welcome the new Board members to Australian Regional Tourism and would like to take this opportunity to thank out-going Board member, Stephen Schwer for his contribution as Deputy Chair”.

Key topics covered at this year’s Convention included ART’s national Agritourism project, the sharing economy in regional Australia, enabling infrastructure, data, regional cruise and air access and tourism 2030.
