New BMX track and bike skills area delivered as part of Western Australia’s Tonkin Gap project

The Tonkin Gap Project, part of a suite of improvements planned or now underway to transform the Tonkin Highway corridor, has delivered a new BMX pump track and mountain bike skills area located alongside Perth's Swan River under the widened Redcliffe Bridge, which was renamed the Mooro-Beeloo Bridge late last year.

Tonkin Highway is an 81-kilometre-long north–south highway and partial freeway in Perth, Western Australia, linking Perth Airport and Kewdale with the city's north-eastern and south-eastern suburbs.

The community space under Mooro-Beeloo bridge is now open to the public. The upgraded area features a pump track, mountain bike skills area, seating, a beach area, yarning circle, Aboriginal artwork, a new canoe landing area on the banks of the river and native tree plantings.

To access the area, you can ride or walk via the new Principal Shared Path or drive and access from Claughton Reserve and the Bayswater boat ramp car park.

The options and design for the underbridge area went through rigorous consultation with more than 700 community members and stakeholders providing input.

The feedback provided by the community and stakeholders showed a strong desire for the area to be converted into a family-friendly space.

To officially mark the opening of the new facilities, a community celebration will be held on 14th April  with the entire community invited to attend.

The delivery of the new BMX pump track and mountain bike skills area highlights the opportunities that exist to deliver new public amenities as part of the METRONET Armadale Line upgrades.

More than six hectares of new public open space will be created as part of the Armadale Line upgrades, with plans for playgrounds, basketball courts, fitness areas, and other public amenities.
