New appointments for Parks Victoria board

Victorian Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith has announced new appointments to the board of Parks Victoria for a three-year term.

Minister Smith said he was pleased to welcome Deborah Cheetham, Andrew Grant, Natalie O'Brien, Professor Andrew Vizard and Professor Robert Wallis to the Parks Victoria board, stating "Parks Victoria has a vital role in managing our state's parks, reserves, significant cultural assets and Melbournes bays and major waterways.

"These new board members will be responsible for guiding conservation and management of our parks, protecting cultural heritage and preparing for and responding to bushfires and other emergencies.

"They will also monitor services delivered by Parks Victoria, making sure all legislative requirements are met.

"In Victoria, we are very fortunate that more than four million hectares, or about 17 per cent of the state, is managed by Parks Victoria for the whole community to enjoy now and into the future.

"Our new board members have been selected for their diverse skills and backgrounds in Indigenous affairs, research and community relations, along with strong leadership abilities. I congratulate them on their appointments."

Dennis Cavagna, Prudence Sanderson and Chairman Andrew Fairley will continue in their roles with the board.

Minster Smith also thanked outgoing board members Clarice Ballenden, Noel Harvey, Kenneth King and Garry Phibbs for their dedication and service to the community in recent years.

The Parks Victoria board is established under the Parks Victoria Act 1998 and reports to the Minister for Environment and Climate Change.
