Napier Aquatic Centre reopens after $4 million refurbishment
Napier Aquatic Centre, located on the eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand, is fully reopening on 28th April after 11 months of a $4 million maintenance and refurbishment project.
Napier City Council advises the significant maintenance and refurbishment project was to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of pool customers and staff. The project was part of Napier City Council’s long-term planning.
Napier Mayor Kirsten Wise says that rather than being aesthetic changes the works have been remedial to keep the pool operational and safe for all users and for staff.
The maintenance and refurbishment included work on the lining of the Old Pool, repairs to walls and roofs, flooring upgrades, new heating, improvements to seating and internal and external accessibility upgrades.
Mayor Wise noted “the Napier Aquatic Centre is well used and well-loved and there’s always lots going on. We wanted to ensure important programmes such as our swim classes, health and fitness sessions and deep-water survival classes could continue in a safe facility.
“Our Aquatic Centre staff are really excited about the facility’s upgrades and are looking forward to welcoming customers back. Thanks to our staff and all pool users for your patience over the past year.
“This upgrade will see us through for the next eight to 10 years. Napier Aquatic Centre will continue to be a place for people to get fit, families to enjoy and babies and toddlers to make their first splash in learn-to-swim classes.”
