My Park Rules competition finalists announced

Hidden tree top cubbies, wetlands, lizard dens, bug hotels and forest swings have each been recognised by the My Park Rules competition for capturing the imagination of school communities all over Australia.

From almost 100 entries from kindergartens, day care centres, primary and high schools, which gathered more than 30,000 votes, the judges have decided on a list of eight project finalists that promote better green space in schools all over the country.

The My Park Rules Finalists from each state are:

• Marrickville Public School (NSW)
• Baden Powell College (Victoria)
• Indooroopilly State School (Queensland)
• Highgate Primary School (Western Australia)
• Snug Primary School (Tasmania)
• Telopea Park School (ACT)
• St John's Early Learning Centre (South Australia)
• Centralian Senior College (Northern Territory)

Judging was undertaken by a panel including Committee for Sydney Chair Lucy Hughes Turnbull, landscape architect and play planner Mary Jeavons, environmental scientist Josh Byrne, Aspect Studios Director Sacha Coles, Associate Professor at the University of Western Sydney Tonia Gray and ‘place making’ advocate Kylie Legge.

The selected entries have now been paired with an accredited Landscape Architect to begin the co-design process to take their concept to the next round of the competition with the winning design to receive a $100,000 build.

Throughout the next phase the judging panel is looking forward to seeing designs which will be judged on their creativity and originality, clear community engagement and the potential for social, physical and environmental benefits to the children.

The overall winner for the My Park Rules initiative will be announced on 1st May 2016.
