Music Victoria and Support Act among contributors to Live Music Parliamentary Inquiry
The House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications and the Arts is holding a public hearing on 8th November for its inquiry into the challenges and opportunities within the Australian live music industry.
The Committee will be speaking with peak industry bodies, and service organisations about industry funding, accessibility, consumer behaviours and perceptions, and audience development.
The Committee will receive an update from Victorian not-for-profit organisation 'Music Victoria', which is the state peak body for contemporary music in Victoria. Music Victoria released their Perceptions of Live Music report in February and the Committee is keen to discuss the findings.
The Committee will also receive an update from Music Australia, which is located within Government body, Creative Australia. Creative Australia has recently worked on the More Than A One Night Stand Sessions in conjunction with the return of triple j's popular festival, One Night Stand.
Support Act, a live music industry charity that delivers crisis relief to musicians, managers, crew and music workers, will also front the Committee. To further explore accessibility in the live music industry, the Committee will hear from Arts Access Victoria, the peak body for arts and disability in Victoria.
The Chair, Brian Mitchell advised “the Committee is eager to explore issues surrounding the accessibility of live music and current consumer behaviour.”
