Mount Gambier secures $800,000 funding for cycling path and solar installation

City of Mount Gambier has secured $800,000 in South Australian Government funding to extend the shared cycling/walking path from the Rail Trail and install solar lighting along the total length spanning 11.3 kilometres.

Council will match the funding provided through the Local Government Infrastructure Partnership Program, established to support councils to accelerate spending on community infrastructure projects that contribute to the future economic growth of the region.

City of Mount Gambier Acting Chief Executive Barbara Cernovskis notes “Council is very pleased to receive funding for this project as it means that we will be able to complete the Wandilo Road to TAFE, Wireless Road West shared path project which will be a 2.09 kilometre extension to the existing path.

“We will also be able to install solar lights along the entire shared cycle/walking path. This will encourage further use of the path for the health and wellbeing of the community and reduce the use of vehicles within the city, contributing to all five goals within Council’s Strategic Plan 2020-2024.”

A project report will be presented to Council next month.
