Merlin to open Legoland in Dubai
Merlin Entertainments Group is to open its first Legoland outside North America and Europe after agreeing a deal with Dubai-based developer Tatweer.
Scheduled to open at the end of 2011 as part of the Dubailand entertainment resort, Legoland Dubailand will feature more than 40 interactive rides, shows and attractions and will be geared towards families with children ages two to 12.
According to Nick Varney, Merlin's Chief Executive, the company has teamed up with Tatweer to look at a number of other potential developments, including the establishment of themed Legoland hotels and possibly other attractions from the Merlin Entertainments portfolio.
Varney explained, "choosing this location for the new Legoland reflects the fact that Dubai is becoming a major holiday destination, not only for the region, but also for visitors worldwide."
Saeed Al Muntafiq, Executive Chair of Tatweer, commented that "the partnership demonstrates our dedication to deliver on the tourism objectives of Dubai Strategic Plan 2015, announced by His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum."
