Melbourne Tourism Week aims to make Victoria’s capital the most visitable city in the world

An initiative of Destination Melbourne, Melbourne Tourism Week has been highlighting the Victorian capital’s visitor economy and showcasing how the city’s tourism product can be further improved.

Aiming to make Melbourne the most visitable city in the world, Melbourne Tourism Week 2017 has been celebrated under the theme of Visitability Starts With Us, recognising and celebrating the value of the city’s visitor economy and the faces behind the industry.

Running since Monday 4th September and concluding tomorrow (10th September), Melbourne Tourism Week is celebrating its 10th year and is featuring a week of professional development activity based on product knowledge, innovative ideas, networking opportunities and experiences that aim to empower participants in achieving excellence, while also reminding stakeholders of how lucky they are to work in such an exciting and progressive industry.

Destination Melbourne Chief Executive Laura Cavallo explains “Destination Melbourne facilitates Melbourne Tourism Week to ensure that the visitor industry is informed with the very latest information and developments, and is inspired to continuously deliver exceptional and inclusive visitor experiences.”

So far this week, Melbourne Tourism Week has featured the Melbourne Tourism Industry Exchange (MTIE) at the MCG on Tuesday, the MPs4 Tourism Breakfast on Wednesday and The Ideas Feast networking function on Friday.

MTIE allowed Greater Melbourne’s tourism attractions, experiences and businesses to exhibit their product to over 400 guests who are customer facing professionals working with Melbourne’s visitors while The Ideas Feast saw expert panellists examine the attraction of more high yield visitors, and how the visitor economy can collaborate to maximise every opportunity.

The visitor economy is a significant economic driver for Victoria and is a key contributor towards Melbourne’s growing economy, with more than $14.2 billion spent by international and domestic overnight visitors for the year ending March 2017.

Destination Melbourne is an independent, not-for-profit tourism organisation empowering Melbourne’s visitor industry to continually enhance the visitor experience and inspiring visitors to explore and enjoy Greater Melbourne.
