Melbourne Star elevates its access credentials

The increasingly popular Melbourne Star Observation Wheel is highlighting its commitment to inclusive tourism, welcoming mobility impaired visitors for the full ‘Star’ experience.

The attraction is advising visitors to the Melbourne Star that they can feel confident that all friends and family can join them in experiencing an unforgettable outing - regardless of any mobility limitations.

Melbourne Star Management Group Chief Executive Chris Kelly explains “we have consulted closely with Worksafe Victoria to ensure our attraction is able to welcome mobility impaired visitors, using both motorised and non-motorised wheelchairs.”

Key accessibility product offering:

• Two wheelchairs can be accommodated per cabin
• A maximum of six wheelchair users can experience Melbourne Star in any one rotation
• Mobility impaired guests must be accompanied by an able bodied carer, to ensure the safest and most comfortable experience
• Convenient drop-off points and ample parking
• Ramp access
• Staff are trained to safely and comfortably board wheelchairs
• Companion card holders are entitled to a free ticket in conjunction with a purchased ticket, valid only for sales processed in-person

Kelly adds “it is imperative that the Melbourne Star is accessible for all guests and we hope the work we have invested in creating a compliant and accessible product allows mobility impaired guests to fully enjoy our tourism attraction.”

The Melbourne Star also welcomes guests and their guide, hearing or assistance dogs.

In addition to enjoying unobstructed 360-degree views of Melbourne and the surrounding area, guests will experience the Tales of Melbourne, a range of interpretive story panels and in-cabin audio that share some of the more interesting and quirky insights into the history of Victoria’s capital and its surrounding regions.

The attraction recently celebrated its 250,000th guest milestone and looks forward to seeing even more Melburnians and interstate visitors take to the skies.

The Melbourne Star is open daily from 10am to 10pm, with last admission at 9.30pm.

The Melbourne Star is owned by Sanoyas Rides Australia Pty Ltd and is managed by Melbourne Star Management Pty Ltd.
