Melbourne named Australasia’s best business events destination
Melbourne has been named Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Destination for the second year at the 21st Annual World Travel Awards Asia & Australasia ceremony, held in Delhi, India, with Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre (MCEC) also taking out the title of Australasia’s Leading Meetings and Conference Centre for the third consecutive year.
Victorian Minister for Tourism and Major Events Louise Asher said Melbourne and MCEC were deserving recipients of the recognition.
Minister Asher stated “these awards are a reflection of our city’s exceptional business events offering, including state-of-the-art facilities, intellectual capital and innovation and will strengthen our future ability to secure world-leading conferences to Melbourne.”
Melbourne Convention Bureau Chief Executive, Karen Bolinger, said it was honour to be recognised by the awards, adding “this award is testament to MCB’s recent success in securing some of the world’s largest and most prestigious health-related conferences including the 22nd World Diabetes Congress, the World Congress of Cardiology and the 20th International AIDS Conference.
MCEC Chief Eexecutive Peter King said the Centre had recently celebrated its most successful year on record, delivering “six of the world’s biggest and most prestigious conferences” in the last 12 months.
King concluded “MCEC is one of only a handful of venues in the world capable of delivering conferences of this calibre and scale and we are incredibly proud of these achievements which have been recognised with this esteemed award.
“Our venue is a major player in the global business events industry and we are proud to lead the way in our creative food, leading technology and excellent service.”
Melbourne and MCEC will now represent Australasia at the World Travel Award’s world awards in Morocco at the end of November.
