Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation Chief Executive Katrina Sedgwick appointed to ABC Board

The Federal Government has appointed the current Director and Chief Executive of the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation, Katrina Sedgwick, as a non-executive Director to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) Board for a five-year term.

Sedgwick has extensive experience in the arts sector including performance, screen, festivals, museums, commissioning, and administration. In 2020 she received an Order of Australia Medal for Services to Film, Theatre, and Visual Arts Administration.

Sedgwick has also held leading roles at the Adelaide Film Festival and the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI).

In addition, Sedgwick has held board positions at Back to Back Theatre, the Australian Children's Television Foundation, Chunky Move, Art Gallery of South Australia, and the Australian Film Television and Radio School, and was the Head of Arts at the ABC between 2012 and 2015.

Sedgwick's skills and experience will support the ABC to continue to deliver on its Charter to provide programs that contribute to a sense of national identity and inform and entertain, and reflect the cultural diversity of the Australian community, as well as to encourage and promote the musical, dramatic and other performing arts in Australia.

This non-executive Director was nominated for appointment by the Nomination Panel as part of the merit-based appointment process for the ABC and SBS Boards.

Sedgwick will continue to serve in her current role at the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation while contributing her expertise to the ABC Board

Sedgwick will commence in the ABC Board role on 2nd October 2024 and will replace the outgoing member, Peter Lewis, whose term expires on 1st October 2024.

Victorian Minister for Creative Industries Colin Brookes shared “as the only Victorian on the Board, Katrina Sedgwick will ensure Victoria’s voice is heard while bringing a wealth of experience in arts, screen, and cultural leadership to this important role.

“Her appointment is not only a win for Victoria but also for the entire country, bringing a vital perspective to the ABC’s role in communications, daily news stories, culture, sport, and regional community media.”

Sedgwick will continue to serve in her current role at the Melbourne Arts Precinct Corporation while contributing her expertise to the ABC Board, ensuring Victoria’s voice is heard and championing the essential role of the ABC in our national discourse.
