Matt Miller steps down as Chief Executive of NSW Office of Sport

The NSW Government has announced that Matt Miller has stepped down as Chief Executive of the NSW Office of Sport with Karen Jones, Executive Director Sport Infrastructure Group, appointed to act as Chief Executive until further notice.

During his four and a half years in the role, Miller established the major building blocks of the Office of Sport’s comprehensive strategic agenda to support the growth and ongoing performance of the sector in place.

These include:

• Strategies for, and investment in stadia, centres of excellence and other high performance facilities, and community sport infrastructure.
• Sector development and performance improvement initiatives encompassing major events, regional sport, sport integrity and sector capability.
• Strategies and investment in programs to increase participation in sport and physical activity including Active Kids and Her Sport Her Way.
• High performance sport funding and strengthening of athlete pathways.

Other highlights include creating new regional sport and active recreation plans for nine regions across NSW as well as new funding and programs for regional sport infrastructure, Greater Sydney sport facilities, centres of excellence, major sport events (10 in 10 World Cups), and upgrades to Olympic sport venues.

On stepping down, Miller said his decision enables the Minister and Government to refresh its sport agenda and to provide his successor with a full term of the Government to implement that agenda.

Jones will continue to build sport and active recreation activity in NSW, and grow the role that the Office of Sport plays in enabling the people of NSW to have healthy and active lifestyles in the newly formed Stronger Communities Cluster.

Miller was also Chief Executive of the Australian Sports Commission from 2009 to 2011 before being ousted by then Federal Sports Minister Mark Arbib.
