Marina Go named first chair of Suncorp Super Netball Commission
Marina Go has been appointed the inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission for a three-year term following the first official Commission meeting in Melbourne on Monday.
Go was elected to the Suncorp Super Netball Commission earlier this month and was subsequently voted into the role of Chair by her fellow commissioners this week.
With more than 25 years leadership experience within Australia’s sporting and business landscapes, Go re-joins the netball community six years after she stepped away from her six-year, three-term tenure as an independent director on the Netball Australia board.
Go is currently the Chair of Ovarian Cancer Australia and a non-executive director of Energy Australia, 7-Eleven, Autosports Group, Pro-Pac and The Walkley Foundation, and was previously Chair of the Wests Tigers NRL club.
She is also Chair of the Advisory Board for the Centre For Media Transition at the University of Technology Sydney and childcare marketplace platform Juggle Street, and a director of PWC’s Diversity Advisory Board. Go is the Founder of the female leadership website Women’s Agenda and author of the business book for women, Break Through: 20 Success Strategies for Female Leaders.
Speaking about what it means to her to be back working within the netball community, Go explains “I am honoured to be selected as the inaugural Chair of the Suncorp Super Netball Commission, alongside a group of independent, strategic thinkers with the right skill sets to drive a world class competition for Australia’s premier women’s league.
“We had our first commission meeting this week at Netball HQ and it was wonderful to be back. It’s amazing to see the rate at which netball has advanced over the past six years - it’s an exciting time for netball.
“My fellow commissioners and I are looking forward to working closely with Suncorp Super Netball CEO Chris Symington, Netball Australia CEO and Suncorp Super Netball commissioner Marne Fechner, the Netball Australia board and the boards of the Suncorp Super Netball teams to continue to innovate the competition and accelerate its growth.”
Suncorp Super Netball Chief Executive Chris Symington added “Marina brings high level leadership experience across a diverse range of industries and we are all looking forward to working closely with her and all of our commissioners to take the league to the next level.
“We couldn’t be more satisfied with the calibre of people we have attracted to the Suncorp Super Netball Commission and believe we have an excellent mix of specialised skill-sets within that group to help achieve our vision of being the number one women’s sports league in the world.”
