Macleod Recreation and Fitness Victoria's Top YMCA
The Macleod Recreation and Fitness Centre has been honoured as the YMCA of the Year at the recent YMCA Victoria 2010 Staff and Volunteer Awards.
As YMCA Chief Executive Peter Burns explains "this prestigious award recognises exceptional performance by a YMCA centre that has demonstrated the highest levels of professionalism and leadership across all areas of operation, achieving industry best practice and the delivery of YMCA mission and values.
"Macleod is quite simply an exceptional community centre that is contributing to the communityâs health and happiness, by catering so brilliantly for people of all ages and abilities."
Macleod Recreation and Fitness Centre is managed by YMCA Victoria on behalf of Banyule City Council. Several centre staff were also honoured with individual YMCA awards including Tim Angel, Centre Director; Stephen Ward, Community Development Director; Anne Calahan, Personal Instructor for older adults, and Emily Rubira, Frontline Services and Membership.
Chris Taylor, personal trainer and group fitness instructor, was named a 'YMCA Hero' for the difference he has made in the life of a YMCA Open Doors participant, James Butcher, 21, who received brain damage when assaulted aged 18. Chris was also a recipient of an Excellence and Achievement Award for Personal Fitness and Group Fitness Instruction.
In other awards:
• Michael Bailey was honoured Manager of the Year for his work at Horsham Aquatic Centre;
• 14 staff were honoured for achieving 15 years of service during the year, and another two staff for reaching 20 years of service;
• The Bridge Project received two awards - Sherilyn Hanson, Bridge Project Manager, was awarded in the Program Pioneer category, and the Bridge Project's Jed McCartney received the The Rosalie Battaglia Volunteer Award;
• Board Member Geraldine Macdonald received Life Membership.
