Luddenham Raceway offers location to improve driving skills

Designed to offer a facility for motor sports and karting enthusiasts to participate in their sport, the new Luddenham Raceway in Western Sydney offers a place for driver of all abilities to drive fast in a safe environment.

Hundreds of people use the facility each week, bringing their vehicles along for open track days, driver safety lessons or go-kart classes.

Construction of the raceway began in 2013 when the Vukmirica gained the financial support to develop the project.

Opened earlier this year, the 1.4 kilometre track is the first major motorsport track to open in the area snce the Oran Park Raceway closed in 2010.

During its history, the Oran Park Raceway hosted several major motorsport championships including the V8 Supercars and Australian Grand Prix.

Former motorsport driver Ian Luff helped open the Luddenham Raceway and runs driving safety courses through his business Ian Luff Track Attack.

He says that the new facility pays homage to the old Oran Park Raceway, advising “our track is slightly shorter than Oran Park but we believe the Luddenham Raceway fills the void left by Oran Park.

“I was based at Oran Park for 27 years doing driver education courses and i was very privileged to drive on the track’s final day.

“It was a very sad day to see a piece of history close.”

The new track has been approved by the Confederation of Australian Motor Sport (CAMS), with Luff advising “CAMS did a full safety audit and the track has been certified.

“However, we won’t host race meetings at this stage but we have long-term plans to grow the track.”
